As you know, our bedrooms are supposed to be a personal sanctuary where we can relax and unwind. But sometimes the harshness of those white blinds just sticks out like a sore thumb.
While some people invest hundreds, and even thousands, to get the “perfect” look for their bedroom, one YouTuber has devised a way to redo your window blinds with a minimal amount of money. Check out her DIY solution down below.
When you watch the clip included here, you can turn regular mini blinds into beautiful Roman Shades – all on your own.
To complete this project, you’ll need:
- White faux-wood blinds
- Thick upholstery fabric
- Mod Podge and bowl
- Foam brush
- Tape measure
- Clothes iron
First measure how long your blinds are. Lay them out in a large work area and fit them to the length of your window. Then snip away the ladder strings on both sides. This is the string that connects the slats. DO NOT remove the thick cord that moves the blinds up and down.
Each slat will need to be 7-inches apart. Divide the length of your window by seven to determine how many slats you’ll need. Remove the left-over slats.
Lay the fabric face down and measure the slats to be about 7-inches apart on the fabric. Fabric should extend about 2-inches around the blinds on all side.
Cut to fit and then use Mod Podge to glue the fabric in place. See how she does this at the 1:40 mark in the video.
Then glues the fabric to the ends of the slats too. Use clothespins to hold the fabric in place while it dries.
See the final result at the end of the video.
